Accessing the Internet has become much more easier today compared to a few years ago. While previously the only way to go online was by using a computer with a dial-up connection today it can be done using a smartphone on an LTE or Wi-Fi connection. The #Samsung Galaxy #S5 for example allows anyone to go online while on the go thanks to its several connectivity features. There are however instances when you are unable to go online with this phone which is what we will be discussing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 won’t connect to the internet issue & other related problems.

S5 Won’t Connect To The Internet
Problem: My S5 will work perfect as long as I’m in my house , and close to the Wi-Fi !!! Once I go out my front door, here’s what still works, Phone, texting, and messenger … but no INTERNET… IE: If I want to look something up on Google, forget it.. it’s not gonna happen, The other nite I was in a restaurant and connected to their Wi_Fi , my phone showed I was connected, however, I tried to open Facebook, to post some pictures , nope, Facebook wouldn’t open! A few weeks ago I was looking for a friends house, I tried to open Google Maps, nope That wasn’t gonna open the short version, is I have no internet once outside my house ….when I get back home ,near the Wi-Fi modem, my phone goes crazy loading stuff up that it could be doing while I’m out! So that’s it…no on line internet once I 10′ away from my front door ! Thanks Droid guy !! I have unlimited data plan, and the box that says automatically switch between, 2.4 Ghz, and Wi-Fi, is not checked per T Mobile …they told me It don’t need to be checked ! I’ve tried it both ways checked and unchecked, it makes no difference !
Solution: The reason why your phone is unable to connect to the Internet while you are outside your house is probably because the phone is unable to use the mobile data. Try checking if you have turned on the mobile data switch. You should also check the APN settings of your phone and make sure that this matches the settings that your network is using. If your phone has the wrong APN settings then you won’t be able to connect to a mobile data connection. Change your phone APN settings if necessary.
Another thing to consider is the data signal in your area. If this signal is weak or non-existent then you won’t be able to go online. You should also verify with your carrier if there are any issues with your account that may be preventing you from accessing the mobile data.
Regarding the issue of your phone unable to go online when connected to another Wi-Fi network this could be due to issues with the particular router you are connecting to. Try deleting the particular Wi-Fi connection from your phone then connect to it again.
S5 Won’t Connect To T-Mobile Internet

Instead I get a u.web2go.com webpage that says: “Your data plan does not work on this device. Click here to sign up for a new data plan.” I have this plan since last year and it has been working great ever since! I tried soft reset, changing my APN, but it didn’t work! I hope you guys can help me
Solution: This particular issue is usually caused by issues with the account. Have you recently made any changes to your account subscription? You will usually see this message when there are some issues with the provisioning. The best way to resolve this is to contact the T-Mobile tech support hotline and have them check your account.
S5 Slow LTE Connection
Problem: I am a straight talk user with an unlocked galaxy s5 and I can connect to 4g lte (as shown in my status bar) but the data speeds are painfully slow. I have just renewed my service and have over 4gb of high speed data left. I have set my apn several times tried resetting the phone. Nothing works. WiFi is fast still. But mobile data is still slow. But I do have Internet connection and can load Web pages (slowly). The area I am in supports lte, as I’ve never had any issues before like this with my previous phones.
Solution: The slow connection speed could be caused by some network concerns. Try to check if this issue occurs in a particular time of the day. If it only happens in certain times then the network tower may be congested during this time causing the connection speed to be slow. Another reason is that you are situated in an area with a weak data signal. To check if this is the case try going to different locations and see if there is any improvement in the connection speed. One other factor that you should check before troubleshooting the phone is your account. To do this you need to contact Straight Talk and inquire if your mobile data connection is being throttled.
When troubleshooting the phone itself the first thing you need to do is to check if the slow connection is only isolated to a particular app. Try using a different browser when accessing the Internet. If you are getting improved speeds then this may just be an app related issue. I suggest you clear the cache and data of the app.
There are also instances when a form of corrupt temporary data can cause this issue. To check if this is the case you need to wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
It’s also possible that a third party app installed in your phone is causing this. To verify if this is what’s causing the problem you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Try to browse any web page in this mode. If the site loads fast then the problem could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
S5 Data Does Not Work
Problem: I have a Verizon version s5 and I and using a Sim card from a cellular company called smartmark. The service is free, I just have to answer survey questions. They run off of the at&t network. 5gb data a month. It was working fine for 3 months under the global setting on my phone but all of the sudden the data is shut off. I can still make calls and text but no data unless I have wifi. Can you help me
Solution: The first thing you should do is to verify if your account has any issues that may be preventing it from using mobile data. To do this you need to contact SmartMark tech support. Once you have verified that this is not an account related issue proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Make sure the mobile data switch is on and that you are getting a mobile data signal.
- Restart your phone.
- Try to check if the issue occurs in different locations.
- Make sure your phone APN settings matches the one used by your network.
- Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if you can use your mobile data. If you can then the problem is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
S5 Mobile Data Not Working After Software Update
Problem: i had just done the latest software download and when my phone had rebooted the mobile data wouldnt work. i have tried many things and have just done a factory reset but it still wont work. Any ideas to help??
Solution: Sometimes during a software update the APN settings of your phone may change. This setting is needed for your phone to connect to a mobile data network. Check if the settings in your phone matches the one your network is using.
