Charging a smartphone shouldn’t be that difficult. If you have the wall charger and an available power outlet then you are good to go. Sometimes though, the phone won’t charge even if you have already used different chargers. This then becomes a problem. The #Samsung Galaxy #S5 for instance can sometimes suffer from this issue. We have received several issues of this nature sent to us by our readers which we would like to tackle today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we aim to resolve the Galaxy S5 doesn’t charge issue & other related problems.

S5 Doesn’t Charge
Problem: My phone is only 2 months old however occasionally when plugging it in to charge it doesn’t charge, I have tested multiple cables and chargers however none of these work and the only solution is to restart the phone. What can be done to resolve this issue?
Solution: If restarting the phone temporarily resolves the issue then there’s a possibility that the phone software could be involved. To troubleshoot this issue try starting the phone in recovery mode first then wipe its cache partition. This will delete the temporary data in your phone which could cause this problem. Restart your device after this then check if the phone now charges normally.
If the issue still occurs then you should backup your phone data then so a factory reset. This will restore your phone software back to its original condition. Once this is done check the charging status of the phone.
Other factors that you should consider should the above troubleshooting steps fail is to check the charging port of the phone. If there is any dirt or debris then clean the port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
Another factor that can cause this issue is a faulty battery. Try getting a new battery then check if the problem gets resolved.
S5 Problem Getting Phone To Charge
Problem: Hi! I am having some problems getting my phone to charge. This has been happening for about four months. My phone started off charging slow, then it started to down charge so when I woke up, I only had about 60%. So, I ordered a new Samsung battery and charger for my phone which helped for about two weeks, now my phone is doing the same thing. I have tried all of the ideas I have read online. Thanks
Solution: Have you tried isolating the phone software as a possible cause to this problem? To do this you can start by wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. If the issue persists then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Instead, observe the device for at least 2 days and see if it charges normally. If the problem dissapears then go ahead and reinstall your apps. If after installing the apps the issue reappears then you may have installed an app that is running aggressively in the background. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
S5 Does Not Charge Does Not Turn On

Problem: My battery fell out of my phone. I put it back in and it vibrated but shut off now I doesn’t even show its charging it wont power on. I’ve had it plugged up for 20 minutes and it won’t do anything. I took the battery out and put it back in and it still wont do anything.
Solution: Try taking out the battery and microSD card (if your phone has one installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone. If it doesn’t turn on then connect the phone to its wall charger and let it charge for 20 minutes before turning it on.
If the problem still remains then try getting a new battery as the battery may have been damaged when it fell.
S5 Battery Drains In Less Than 12 Hours
Problem: Battery is draining in less than 12 hours. I shutdown apps as much as possible, but it doesn’t help. I’ve tried another battery too.
Solution: There are several factors that could be causing this problem which we will eliminate during our troubleshooting.
First, you should check if some form of corrupt temporary data is causing this issue. To do this just wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will delete the temporary data in your device. Once this is done you should check if the issue still occurs.
Another factor that you should look into is if a third party app you installed is causing the problem. To check if this is the case just start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from starting. Tr to observe if the issue still occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then an app could be the culprit. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Sometimes the phone software itself could be causing this issue. To troubleshoot if this is the case you need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
S5 Does Not Turn On
Problem: Currently I have had an issue with my Samsung S5 I purchased it one year back and i have really explored its goodness, but it started misbehaving by showing me an sms that” unfortunately your S5 has stopped”. This appeared many times but later it stopped powering on, when i press the power button, it starts to power on but the word ANDROID keeps moving across the screen until when power is off but it will never proceed to display the window.
Solution: Try to check if the issue occurs even when your phone is plugged to its wall charger. If it doesn’t occur then it could be caused by a weak battery not providing the correct voltage to the phone. One way to fix this problem is to get a new battery.
If the problem occurs even when the phone is plugged to its charger then this issue could be software related. You need to check if your phone can start in recovery mode. This is a run time environment separate from the phone’s operating system and is a great tool to check if the software is causing the problem. If you are able to access the recovery mode then try wiping the cache partition of your phone first. This deletes the temporary data in the device which could be causing the issue. Restart your phone then check if it can boot normally. If the issue still occurs then go back to recovery mode and do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone so only consider this if you have made a backup.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then it is possible that your phone software may have become corrupt. If this is the case then you will need to flash the updated stock firmware to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the Android forums online.
S5 Battery Drains Fast
Problem: My battery lasts around 3-4 hours and towards 50% it starts getting very hot and the battery then drains 4 times faster then the rate it was draining.
Solution: A 3-4 hour battery life is extremely low and shouldn’t be the case since the phone can provide up to 11 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. Try to check first if the phone software is causing this problem. Sometimes a corrupt data or an app aggressively running in the background can cause this problem. To check if this is the case you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet but instead check if the issue still occurs. If you are still experiencing the same problem even after the reset then try getting a new battery as the one you are using may already be weak.
